Asian American history is also urban history.
Don’t know much about Asian American history? There are a TON of books out there detailing the long history of Asians in this country. This is one of my favorite starting points.
Erika Lee, The Making of Asian America: A History (Simon & Schuster, 2015).
There is also an introductory documentary series that might help you get a basic understanding.
PBS Asian Americans (2020)
And here are some books that show the clear connections between Asian American and urban history:
Willow Lung-Amam, Trespassers?: Asian Americans and the Battle for Suburbia (UC Press, 2017).
Wendy Cheng, The Changs Next Door to the Díazes (U Minnesota Press, 2013).
Charlotte Brooks, Alien neighbors, foreign friends: Asian Americans, housing, and the transformation of urban California (U Chicago, 2009).
More soon.
