Don’t know much about Asian American history? There are a TON of books out there detailing the long history of Asians in this country. This is one of my favorite starting points.

Erika Lee, The Making of Asian America: A History (Simon & Schuster, 2015).

There is also an introductory documentary series that might help you get a basic understanding.

PBS Asian Americans (2020)

And here are some books that show the clear connections between Asian American and urban history:

  1. Willow Lung-Amam, Trespassers?: Asian Americans and the Battle for Suburbia (UC Press, 2017).

  2. Wendy Cheng, The Changs Next Door to the Díazes (U Minnesota Press, 2013).

  3. Charlotte Brooks, Alien neighbors, foreign friends: Asian Americans, housing, and the transformation of urban California (U Chicago, 2009).

More soon.
